大家好，我們是新婦女協進會（婦進／AAF）的『家務移工小組』（Migrant Domestic Worker Subcommittee）！在過去的四個月，我們已經順利進行了第一期的研讀活動：看了Nicole Constable的”Maid to Order”、閱讀了Alice Childress 小說”Like One of the Family”中描述1950s紐約市一位家務工和朋友對話的有趣章節、通過紀錄片『八東病房』了解在台灣女移民工的境況以及閱讀 Cheryl Seelhoff 的文章”The Motherhood Penalty” 來認識社會制度怎樣懲罰母親。令我們感到驚喜的是由於參與者的背景五花八門，有對移工處境有興趣、初出茅廬的大專生、亦有從事多年長者工作的退休人士，有的參與者本身也是家務移工的雇主……不同經驗的交織促使了一次又一次富有趣味的討論！

『家務移工小組』計畫籌備第二期的研讀活動，並希望邀請你和我們一齊在7月21日的小party，輕鬆對談、尋找有魅力的讀物作為第二期的活動！屆時，歡迎大家帶來想和其他人一起討論的文本：可以是影片、書本、詩集、相集，等等，惟內容必須和『家務移工』有關的；你的文本可能會成為我們新一輪活動的研讀資料；你也可以提出你想搞的活動！

Hello! We are the Migrant Domestic Worker (MDW) Subcommittee of the Association for the Advancement of Feminism (AAF)!

In the past four months, we have already launched and run our first round of Study Group activities, “One of the Family”. Our discussions included: a chapter from the book Maid to Order by Nicole Constable, several chapters from an interesting book of vignettes Like One of the Family by Alice Childress, a Taiwanese documentary Hospital Wing 8 East to understand the dilemma faced by MDWs working in hospitals and, for the last session, Cheryl Seelhoff’s article “The Motherhood Penalty” about how social policies penalize mothers. To our surprise, the participants were of diverse backgrounds such as college students, retired social workers, employer of migrant workers and teachers…… Their different life experiences thoroughly enriched the discussions!

We now invite you to our “Books & More Party” on 21 July, to exchange our ideas for readings in the next round of activities. Just bring along the MDW-related texts you wish to discuss with others, which can be a film, article, novel, photo album, or poem, to name just a few options. You can suggest activities (related to MDWs) for us to do as well! Your text/idea will be adopted for the next round, if others find it interesting!
